M2M Magazine Reveals the M2M 100 for 2008

Carol Stream, Ill. - Dec. 6, 2007
- M2M magazine today unveiled the 2008 M2M 100, a directory of the most influential providers of machine-to-machine technology. Now in its fourth year and published annually in the M2M Sourcebook, the M2M 100 is widely regarded as the definitive record of companies comprising the rapidly emerging machine-to-machine technology market.

Keeping with tradition, this year's M2M 100 is a mixture of established technology giants and nimble startups. This year, however, several important trends emerged that give insight into the direction of the industry.

Only five companies from the 2007 M2M 100 were acquired, which is down from 17 the year before. For the entire M2M industry, the total number of acquisitions in 2007 stands at 15, which is down from 27 in 2006.

Including 38 companies surviving from the original M2M 100, a total of 79 companies repeated from 2007 to 2008, signaling a potential shift toward stability in the industry. The high number of repeats created fierce competition for the few new spots available. Twenty-one new companies fought their way to a spot on this year's list.

"The 2008 M2M 100 directory provides a snapshot of a burgeoning market and identifies the companies with the greatest impact on its direction," said Michael Jarosik, editor, M2M magazine. "With newfound stability among technology providers, end-to-end solutions are becoming more easily attained and implemented, delivering dramatic return on investment to end users."

Technology providers named to the M2M 100 are chosen from a compilation of over 300 companies gathered from various sources. The companies listed below were chosen after much research and analysis showed that they were among the top 100 matching the given criteria.

Examples of the criteria used to compare companies are strength of business model and product/service portfolio, momentum and activity in the last 12 months, growth potential, and much more.
